What is a Globe Valve? 

A globe valve is a linear motion valve used for flow regulation in a pipe. The valve is named after its spherical body. It employs a stationary ring seat and an up and down moving disc to precisely control fluid flow. 

Major Parts of a Globe Valve 

1. Body – The central element that contains internal pieces. 

2. Disc/Plug – Up-and-down movement to manage flow. 

3. Seat – Offers a sealing surface for the disc. 

4. Stem – Attaches the actuator or handwheel to the disc. 

5. Bonnet – Covers the stem and offers structural support. 

Working Mechanism 

As the handwheel turns, it causes the stem to move vertically- lifting or lowering the disc. This motion provides smooth control of fluid flow, thus globe valve are best suited for throttling. The direction of flow through the valve body alters providing greater control but at a pressure drop.
